Anthony Kiedis to Curate The New American Music Union Festival

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Here is an interesting interview from Post Gazzete by Scott Mervis where Anthony is talking about The New American Music Union festival and a little bit about Red Hot Chili Peppers … And here is the part of the interview where he talks about the band:

Back in 2000, for the launch of the Rolling Rock Town Fair, Anthony Keidis turned up shirtless and mohawk-ed to headline with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Eight years later, for the first-ever American Eagle New American Music Union festival, the 45-year-old singer is on board again, this time in a more subdued, administrative role (though you never know ??).
Keidis was asked by American Eagle to curate the festival, and he followed through with a lineup that even the biggest indie-rock snobs have been hard-pressed to challenge.
Last week, he took a few minutes on the phone to explain his vision for NAMU.

So, what’s happening with the Chili Peppers?

We worked very hard for a long time. That goes back to when John [Frusciante] came back to the band in 1999, which is when we did “Californication.” Pretty much from that point forth, we never took a break. We did the songwriting, rehearsing, recording, touring, took a few deep breaths, back into songwriting, and we did that over and over a couple times, one of which was a double album, which was doubly hard. And when we got off of our last tour, we were thinking, let’s stop for a minute and do other things, and learn something new and let it breathe and reinvent for a while. So, we’re in that space, and how long that lasts and what will come out of it, no one knows. It actually turned out to be perfect for me, cause I had a son about one month after we got off the road. …

Oh, congratulations. How old is he now?

Ten months. I would have been at a complete loss if I was to miss this portion of his life. You know, waking every day and having him be the first guy I see and hang out with. I wouldn’t wanted to miss that, so I have to thank the universe for orchestrating that for me. When it’s time for us to go back together and go into our little room and start re-creating, I think we will.

‘The Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman discusses a new festival and the state of his band’

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Here is something new… Sorry, I wasn’t really around to update, but there were no big news anyway. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are still resting, and I really hope they will start creating some new music very soon :)

till then, here is a small part of the interview from Rolling Stone’s website:

Anthony Kiedis rollingstone Anthony Kiedis is keeping busy without his Red Hot Chili Peppers (“We’re disbanded for the moment,” he tells Rolling Stone — for more on the band’s year-long break, keep reading). The California dad recently pulled together Bob Dylan, the Raconteurs and more bands for Pittsburgh’s New American Music Festival (sponsored by American Eagle Outfitters), which takes place August 8 and 9. Kiedis dialed up RS to explain what exactly a festival curator does, where the RHCPs are at and whether he’s putting any thought into the ever-evolving business end of the music biz…

What’s the status of the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
We’re disbanded for the moment. We actually took a very long time to make the Stadium Arcadium record, because we wrote a lot of songs and then got way too married to them and decided we need it to be a double album. Which was a great experience, but it took forever. It was really a grueling, long haul and it followed two other very long hauls, Californication and By the Way. So we kind of started in 1999 with the writing and the recording of Californication and we didn’t really stop until the tour ended last year. We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run. Cooler heads prevailed and the discussion at the end of our last tour was, “Let’s not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.” I was about to have a brand new son. Flea is very inspired to re-up his musical direction and ability and skill and he wants to learn new stuff. John [Frusciante] has been firing away on his own, making different solo projects. And Chad [Smith] joined a jazz band and went to Japan. I’m just home, hanging out with this really cool little kid, learning how to surf. But I’m starting to get just a little bit of a tingle that it would be nice to start thinking about songs and pieces of music. But just pieces…
