MusiCares – Anthony’s Benefit Concert

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Those of you who attended MusiCares benefit concert honoring Anthony Kiedis, Chad Smith and Flea (and many other musicians) are probably swamped with the impressions. I didn’t have the opportunity to go, so even though I can’t tell you my own, I will do my best to show you a piece of the atmosphere ;)

Anthony, Chad and Flea on MusiCares benefit concert

Here is a short video of Anthony, Chad Smith and Flea, walking from the red carpet into Club Nokia in Los Angeles California, taken by a youtube user talefromthepit

For more pictures visit gettyimages and for even more pictures and videos from curlygurly, go visit her photobucket gallery.

And here is a short transcript from a very well written blog entry you should definitely read at talesfromthepit.net:

“The highlight of the night was a pulsating set by rock & roll royalty Iggy Pop. Backed by Chad Smith, Flea and Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) Iggy led his new band through a set of classics. Opening with “Search & Destroy,” for the first time all night, the crowd got off their rumps and grooved the best they could amongst the stadium style seating. Anyone who has seen Flea perform knows he is a beast. I truthfully think that Flea was levitating as he was beyond exciting to be playing with the golden rock God.”

Concert To Honor Anthony Kiedis

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

I am back with some good news finally! On Friday, May 8, this year, a benefit concert will be held to honor Anthony Kiedis, to Raise Funds MusiCares Addiction Recovery Services. The most interesting thing is that, among many artists performing that night, Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing as well! Well they don’t mention John anywhere in the article, but it states that Anthony will be playing with his band mates Flea and Chad Smith. (As for John, he is probably busy with his solo projects…) So here it is:

The fifth annual MusiCares® MAP Fund® benefit concert will honor multi-GRAMMY®-winning Red Hot Chili Peppers co-founder and lead singer Anthony Kiedis, and it will take place for the first time at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, May 8, 2009. Kiedis will be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.

“I’ve seen firsthand the physical and emotional toll addiction takes on people — not just myself, but so many other artists and friends as well,” said Kiedis. “The pain of addiction is leveled only by the promise of sobriety and the MusiCares MAP Fund provides access to the kind of resources that can help people genuinely change their lives. I’m proud to be honored and help raise funds for this critical work.”

For those of you who can make it to the show, contact Wynnie Wynn at 310.392.3777 or wynniew@grammy.com for tickets and information. General admission balcony tickets are available for each through Ticketmaster . And keep in mind that, out of respect for the clients the MusiCares MAP Fund serves, the event will be alcohol-free.

So get ready for the event. I bet seeing Red Hot Chili Peppers play again will be amazing, so if you happen to be anywhere near Los Angeles, do not miss this :)

If you want to know more about this MusiCares event, and if you are interested to know who else will be playing that night, go visit Red Hot Chili Peppers official website and find out!

So, it’s true! Flea was indeed in London last night, opening the BBC Electric Proms with Damon Albarn’s Africa Express.

Hard-Fi, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Johnny Marr, The Magic Numbers and Michael Flea Balzary from Red Hot Chili Peppers, teamed up with a host of African musicians to perform at Koko in London. The gig was part of the five day festival which runs from 22-26 October in London and Liverpool. Albarn and Flea also performed a short jam with a trumpet and melodica.

For those of you wanting to know more about Africa Express go and read their profile at BBC music. Here is a short intro:

Africa Express is an initiative that has taken Western musicians to Mali and the Congo, and brought African musicians to perform collaborations at Brixton, Glastonbury, Liverpool – and now the Electric Proms. Previous performers who have taken part in Africa Express events include Franz Ferdinand, Amadou and Mariam, Damon Albarn, Baaba Maal, Fatboy Slim and Tony Allen.

I hope those of you living in UK knew about this before I did and found some time to enjoy the performance and great music!
