Those of you who attended MusiCares benefit concert honoring Anthony Kiedis, Chad Smith and Flea (and many other musicians) are probably swamped with the impressions. I didn’t have the opportunity to go, so even though I can’t tell you my own, I will do my best to show you a piece of the atmosphere ;)

Anthony, Chad and Flea on MusiCares benefit concert

Here is a short video of Anthony, Chad Smith and Flea, walking from the red carpet into Club Nokia in Los Angeles California, taken by a youtube user talefromthepit

And here is a short transcript from a very well written blog entry you should definitely read at talesfromthepit.net:

“The highlight of the night was a pulsating set by rock & roll royalty Iggy Pop. Backed by Chad Smith, Flea and Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) Iggy led his new band through a set of classics. Opening with “Search & Destroy,” for the first time all night, the crowd got off their rumps and grooved the best they could amongst the stadium style seating. Anyone who has seen Flea perform knows he is a beast. I truthfully think that Flea was levitating as he was beyond exciting to be playing with the golden rock God.”

Yesterday, in an interview, Chad Smith denied the rumors about Red Hot Chili Peppers splitting up. However, they are still not planning on making new music. Instead, they just seem to be enjoying themselves with their solo projects and their well deserved break!

As Chad Smith said in the interview he has given for British Q Magazine:

“No we haven’t split up,” he insists “We’re not playing right now, but shit, man, we played a lot. It was time to take a little break and live your life. We’re not some conveyorbelt”.

However Smith confirmed that: “Everybody’s kind of doing their own thing right now” but Smith claims the band - also including guitarist John Frusciante- are planning to “reconvene at the end of September or October”. “We make music when it feels right you cant force people to do stuff. If you’re not feeling it, so why do it? Do other thing and come back to it re-energised”

So they are coming back with some new tunes, it’s just a matter of time now :) it seems that they just extended their break, and hopefully, we’ll hear some new, fresh Red Hot Chili Peppers music when they come back in September!

I am back with some good news finally! On Friday, May 8, this year, a benefit concert will be held to honor Anthony Kiedis, to Raise Funds MusiCares Addiction Recovery Services. The most interesting thing is that, among many artists performing that night, Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing as well! Well they don’t mention John anywhere in the article, but it states that Anthony will be playing with his band mates Flea and Chad Smith. (As for John, he is probably busy with his solo projects…) So here it is:

The fifth annual MusiCares® MAP Fund® benefit concert will honor multi-GRAMMY®-winning Red Hot Chili Peppers co-founder and lead singer Anthony Kiedis, and it will take place for the first time at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, May 8, 2009. Kiedis will be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.

“I’ve seen firsthand the physical and emotional toll addiction takes on people — not just myself, but so many other artists and friends as well,” said Kiedis. “The pain of addiction is leveled only by the promise of sobriety and the MusiCares MAP Fund provides access to the kind of resources that can help people genuinely change their lives. I’m proud to be honored and help raise funds for this critical work.”

For those of you who can make it to the show, contact Wynnie Wynn at 310.392.3777 or wynniew@grammy.com for tickets and information. General admission balcony tickets are available for each through Ticketmaster . And keep in mind that, out of respect for the clients the MusiCares MAP Fund serves, the event will be alcohol-free.

So get ready for the event. I bet seeing Red Hot Chili Peppers play again will be amazing, so if you happen to be anywhere near Los Angeles, do not miss this :)

If you want to know more about this MusiCares event, and if you are interested to know who else will be playing that night, go visit Red Hot Chili Peppers official website and find out!

Chickenfoot Debut CD

March 20th, 2009

Chad Smith drummer ChickenfootI know it has been a while now, but there were no news to report. Red Hot Chili Peppers are still on hiatus, and we don’t know how long that hiatus is going to last. In the mean time, here are some news about the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and his super group - Chickenfoot.

Chickenfoot’s self-titled debut CD will be released in either April or May. The first single might be either ‘Oh, Yeah!’ or ‘Bitten By The Wolf’. The tour will kick off in May, warming up in smaller venues (possibly clubs) in the USA followed by a few weeks in Europe during the summer. Then the band will return to the USA for a larger headlining tour this fall. The band is planning on performing the entire CD as well as songs from each of the band members careers.

Joe Satriani, the guitarist, recently described Chickenfoot’s music as, “High-energy, kick-ass rock’n’roll. We all bring to the table some unusual influences and then we also share a lot of roots. And I think that’s where a true color of a band comes out, just how we react to each other. So, it’s definitely rock music. We haven’t brought each other together to do a techno record.”

He described the music as “Funk, blues and experimental. The material is really slamming, and anybody who has ever been around Chad knows that he is a very huge personality, a very high-energy guy and his drumming in person is explosive. This band really gives him carte blanche to go crazy. I think it’s the best of what you’d expect, that’s the best way to put it. No one is acting out of character.”

For those of you who missed the Chickenfoot podcast videos, here is the teaser, enjoy!

In the Last interview with Chad Smith about Chickenfoot, the ’supergroup’ he’s formed with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani and Michael Anthony, he said that Red Hot Chili Peppers were on a hiatus, taking a one-year break, before getting back together. It’s been well over a year now and there are still no news about the band and when or if they are planning on getting back together and creating new music. In recent interview with John Frusicante, after he’s new solo album The Empyrean, he firmly stated that there are no plans for Red Hot Chili Peppers to reconvene. “We’re on a hiatus of indefinite length,” he said on that occasion, “There’s other things to life.”

This time, musicradar asked Chad Smith about the future of the Red Hot Chili Peppers again.

“We’ve been on a break for a year and whatever,” Smith said. “I can’t speak for John - he’s doing his thing and hopefully he’s happy - but I think when we’re all ready to play again, when we feel like it’s time to be the Chili Peppers again, we’ll do it.” It is unsure if John Frusciante is the reason for the band’s extended hiatus, but the famous drummer said: “You can’t force anybody to play who doesn’t want to,” he explained. “I’m not naming names. I’m just saying we all have to feel that the time is right to get it together.”

Chad Smith also explained that even though his first impression was that they would get back together after a year, the added time could be a blessing “A year off might have been optimistic,” he said. “Maybe it’ll be two years, maybe more, who knows? It’s been a very positive time in our lives, actually “The thing is, we’ll only get back together for the right reason: to play music with one another. That’s the only agenda this band adheres to.”

As for now, all members seems to be occupied with their solo works, and projects - John Fruscinate just released his solo album, Anthony Keidis is busy turning his life story into an HBO show, Flea has gone back to school to study music, and Smith is proud to be part of Chickenfoot. “Chickenfoot has turned out to be everything I could’ve hoped for,” Smith enthused. “When people hear this album, they’re not going to believe it’s us; they’re going to think it’s four other guys. It’s far exceeded my expectations and goals.”

As for the future of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chad Smith seems to be enthusiastic, “Hey, if I can be in two hit bands, like, wow, what a problem,” he said with a laugh, “A drummer should be so lucky.”

I am wondering what will happen and when we will know for sure if there will be any more new music. I hope for the best. But since they are happy with their current projects for now, we should all just leave it at that. When all members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers feel like getting back together and reviving the special chemistry they had, I have no doubts they will do just that and surprise us with another masterpiece.
